http://www.wavesforwater.org/fundraiser/clean-water-for-puerto-rico-by-boricuas-in-pa If you've already made a direct contribution to the fundraiser of $20.00, your ticket is covered.

As a way of thanking contributors, those who opt for tickets will be treated to:

*An exclusive preview of offerings from Chef Luis Liceaga, the latest chef to join vendors at Philly’s famed Reading Terminal Market. A native of the island, Liceaga comes from culinary royalty—his aunt and kitchen mentor is Carmen Aboy Valldejuli, author of the original Puerto Rican cooking bible, Cocina Criolla. (Philly Mag: http://www.phillymag.com/foobooz/2017/10/26/loco-lucho-reading-terminal-market/)

*Artwork by 100 Puerto Rican Diaspora Artists. Curated by Puerto Rican artist Adrián Viajero Román, DEFEND PUERTO RICO’s CITICIEN features the historic and present-day impact of the Jones Act—much in the news recently due to its role in slowing Maria relief.

*Performer Gabriel "Gabe" Muñoz’s cuatrista music, featuring a special guitar and style native to the Caribbean and Puerto Rico.

*Coquito, a traditional Puerto Rican drink, made by artist Alex Rivera (AKA Playful Gorilla).

Background:

11.12.17 PR still needs help with clean water. There are water filtration plants that are still not running. Thank you for your support.

10.20.17 A full month post catastrophic Hurricane Maria, approximately one third of the population does not have water in Puerto Rico. That’s one million Americans - children, mothers, grandmothers who can't drink water. Another 70% only have access to water that is treated intermittently due to power outages, making life's most essential need unreliable. Puerto Rico is undergoing a humanitarian crisis. Fresh, clean water is needed. Please help us get water filters to our beloved island.

We are women of the Puerto Rican diaspora and friends of the diaspora that live in the Philadelphia region. We are passionate about supporting efforts to bring clean water to our island in an environmentally-responsible manner and in a way that empowers local community leaders to implement solutions.

Waves for Water works with Puerto Ricans on the ground, partnering with local NGOs on the island to ensure that all local networks are plugged in to help communities that are in need of clean water. Waves for Water also trains community leaders to install the water filters to help empower locals. Waves for Water provides high quality filters (Sawyer filters) where there isn't drinking water or where the drinking water source is contaminated. They are also trained in emergency preparedness and will do whatever it takes with local partners to get to those in need.

Curious about who exactly Waves for Water is working with on the ground in PR? They're working with phenomenal individuals (locals!), like the legendary surfer, Otto Flores, in addition to Jorge Quintana and Jose Pérez, among many others. They're also working with a variety of NGOs and businesses on the ground: Instituto Nueva Escuela, Alianza Ciudadana, Taller Pro Salud, Para La Naturaleza, Chefs for Puerto Rico, Olita, Boys and Girls Club, Black Beard Sports, Fundación PR (Foundation for Puerto Rico), RBC Relief, PR Serve, Maverick DNA, National Lumber & Hardware, Integrand Insurance, Reliable Finance and the Ricky Martin Foundation, among others.

Wondering where the filters have gone thus far? Carolina, Guayama, Salinas, Aguadilla, Isabela, Rincón, Condado, Jayuya, Utuado, Yauco, Añasco, Toa Baja, Cayey, Caguas, Patillas, Loíza, Dorado, Vega Baja, Juncos, Cidra, Aibonito, Camuy, La Cordillera Central, Arecibo, Salinas, Guayama, Comerío, Río Grande, Luquillo, Fajardo, Caguas, Barranquitas, Naranjito, Humacao, Vieques, Mayagüez and San Juan, among other locations.

You can help get water filters to communities in Puerto Rico! Our goal is to help get clean water to 20,000 Puerto Ricans (fellow American citizens).

Come to our event, enjoy the art, music and good people!

Can't come out, but still want to help? You can: Make donation directly right here!

¡Gracias!

Carolina, Guayama, Salinas, Aguadilla, Isabela, Rincón, Condado, Jayuya, Utuado, Yauco, Añasco, Toa Baja, Cayey, Caguas, Patillas, Loíza, Dorado, Vega Baja, Juncos, Cidra, Aibonito, Camuy, La Cordillera Central, Arecibo, Salinas, Guayama, Comerío, Río Grande, Luquillo, Fajardo, Caguas, Barranquitas, Naranjito, Humacao, Vieques, Mayagüez y San Juan, entre otros.
